FFP2, N95 and KN95: What Do the Names Mean?
These labels come from different regional standards. Their filtration requirements are close, but the testing methods and intended markets are not identical.
• FFP2 follows the European EN 149 standard. It has a minimum filtration level of 94%.
• N95 is a US NIOSH classification. It filters at least 95% of non-oil airborne particles.
• KN95 follows China’s GB 2626 standard and has a minimum filtration level of 95%.
• KF94 is a Korean classification with a minimum filtration level of 94%.
There is no single standard that is automatically right for every situation. Start with the rules in your market, then consider particle type, oil exposure, fit and whether a reusable classification is needed.
Before You Order, Check More Than the Logo
A certification mark printed on a box is only a starting point. Ask for the certificate and its supporting laboratory report, then make sure every document refers to the exact mask model you plan to buy.
Use this quick checklist:
1. Compare the product and model names across the mask, packaging, certificate and report.
2. Confirm that the approval or notified body is authorized for the stated standard.
3. Review the report for filtration, inward leakage, breathing resistance, test date and other results required by the applicable standard.
4. Make sure the manufacturer and production site can be identified and contacted.
Be careful if a supplier shows only a printed logo, avoids sharing test data, provides mismatched model names or cannot identify the factory behind the product.

Choose the Mask Around the Actual Exposure
Think about what is in the air before comparing mask shapes or colors. Dust, fine urban particles, oil mist and fluid splash are different hazards, so one mask should not be treated as a universal choice.
