Inhaling PM2.5 immediately damages the brain
PM2.5 is no longer believed to only cause harm to the body through long-term accumulation.
Previously, we thought that PM2.5 only caused harm to the body through long-term accumulation. However, medical research has shown that inhaling PM2.5 immediately damages the brain.
A study from Columbia University conducted an experiment where two groups of people were placed simultaneously in a "clean filtered environment" and a "diesel exhaust environment." The changes in the brain's default mode network (DMN) were monitored using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and it was found that the brain's response was immediately damaged after inhaling PM2.5. This challenges the common belief that air pollution only causes harm after accumulating over time.
Diesel exhaust is not limited to traffic-related sources but can also be produced by heavy machinery and tools.
To protect our brain health, let's wear masks together.
